Kasthamandap Banquet Venue, Paropkar Building, Bhimsensthan
This public debate is expected to bring out the voices prominent personalities from the conservation field and the views of the voices of the authorities who will explore the suitability of the tender system where the heritage reconstruction work will be awarded to the lowest bidding contractor.
Organized by a voluntary, spontaneous public movement called Kasthamandap Punarnirman Ko Lagi Abhiyan (Campaign to Rebuild Kasthamandap), this public debate comes is the wake of the Ranipokhari scandal that took place in the end of September this year where the government actually descrated the holy 17th century site in the name of its reconstruction — more information can be found about that at http://facebook.com/savenepaliheritage.
We feel citizens from all walks of life should participate in the process of making a decision on how heritage should be rebuilt. Should heritage by treated just like any other physical infrastructure, such as a bridge or an office building or an electrical power line? Or should heritage have some special preferences that respect its originality and its attachment with our very identify?
Come participate in this much-needed discussion and get your point across to the government officials, who seem to be brazenly ignoring the people’s sentiment in the course of heritage reconstruction.
